Every technology wave promises to make organisations smarter. Most deliver volume, velocity, and a growing suspicion that something essential has been lost. The question worth sitting with is not how fast you can move - it is what you are moving towards.
The Human Premium opens shortly. A strategic advisory practice for leaders who understand that the real competitive advantage ahead is not artificial. The thinking begins now, at Neural Pastoral - neuralpastoral.blog.
The Human Premium is an advisory for founders and leaders adopting AI, and for everything that adoption asks of their culture, their governance, and the trust they have built.
I'm Adam Clarke, and this is my practice. I'm not a technologist. I'm a strategist, with 15 years across SMEs, start-ups, and commercial organisations in the creative industries, healthcare, and the third sector. Long enough to know what a difficult decision feels like before it is made.
I offer a number of deliberately crafted engagements for start-ups and SMEs facing uncertain, complicated times, with too much noise and too little honest help.
When everyone can deploy the technology, the advantage shifts to those who know what it must never replace. That knowledge is learned, not installed. I use AI every day in this practice, and I publish exactly how.
The leaders who come through AI well are the ones who know what they are protecting, and why. I help them get clear on both.
You work with me only. There is no associate network, no junior delivery team. Every engagement I offer is capped so that this stays true.
I will tell you when the answer is no. Including when the answer is that you should not adopt this, should not adopt it yet, or should not be paying me to help you.
I use AI daily. It supports me to build structure, drafts, and conduct research. It does not make the judgements you are paying for, and no client data goes into a public LLM model.
I will not claim what I cannot evidence. Where the research is contested, I will say so rather than sell you the confident version.

A scoped relationship where the readiness and mentoring work continues, at a more fractional leadership level.
For founders and senior leaders navigating the identity questions AI is producing. Culminates with a personalised road map - a written statement of who you are, what you protect, and how you will lead through change.
A structured analysis of where human judgement must be retained, and a sequence you can act on.
Most engagements begin with the Assessment. The others follow only if the work warrants them.

I had plenty of ideas but no clarity on which direction to take. Working with Adam cut straight through that.
I wanted an experienced mentor I could reflect and brainstorm with, who would challenge my thinking and help me identify issues I may not yet have recognised. That is exactly what Adam provided.
As a direct result of our sessions, I have a clearer understanding of the business and all that's needed to protect it. Adam helped me recognise that sustainable growth cannot be built on enthusiasm and goodwill alone; it requires proper infrastructure, accountability and decisions supported by evidence.
Adam brings enormous energy and positivity, but is also practical, honest and unafraid to challenge you when it matters. He has shown a genuine belief in the business and the wider movement I am building. I would confidently recommend him to any founder or business owner looking for a knowledgeable, committed mentor who will not simply validate their ideas, but will help them think more critically, build stronger foundations and turn ambition into a clear and actionable strategy.

Working with Adam has been truly life-changing.
Health Valued started as a pipe dream that became a functioning organisation within less than 2 years. I was wearing every hat imaginable! Adam showed compassion, empathy, and strategic vision, while encouraging excellence throughout all of our sessions. He showed me how to go from thinking like a manager to as a CEO.
Thanks to Adam's guidance, I have a greater understanding of the importance of foundational structures, governance, maintaining personal and professional stability, all underpinned with an actionable growth strategy. With his support I've achieved more in 3 months - both in financial and service success - than in the previous 12!

When Adam and I started working together, I knew where I wanted the business to go, but not what needed to be true underneath it to get it there.
He helped us strengthen our governance and operational foundations, and reframed AI readiness as a leadership challenge rather than a technology one. What sets Adam apart is the quality of his thinking. He asks the questions you've been quietly hoping nobody asks - but always with curiosity, kindness and respect.
He combines strategic perspective with practical advice, helping me connect day-to-day decisions with our long-term direction while holding me accountable without judgement. As a CEO, it's rare to find someone who is both genuinely curious about your world and experienced enough to challenge your thinking. Adam is exactly that, and he's become one of the most valuable thinking partners I have.

A SELF-SCORED READINESS DIAGNOSTIC. FIFTEEN MINUTES IF YOU ANSWER QUICKLY, AND RATHER LONGER IF YOU ANSWER HONESTLY.
Founder-led SMEs and social enterprises. The ideal client is a leader who reads widely, thinks carefully, and refuses to mistake urgency for wisdom. They are not anti-technology. They are pro-human. They want to adopt AI in a way they will be proud of in five years.
Fees are fixed before we speak and given at the end of the first conversation, once the scope is clear. They do not vary by who is asking. There is no proposal process and no negotiation. Every offering is capped at four clients at any one time, which is the mechanism that keeps this a sole-practitioner practice rather than an aspiration to be one.
Yes. The Human Premium is a sole-practitioner practice by design. There is no associate network, no junior delivery team, no partner roster. Every engagement is delivered by Adam Clarke directly.
Most AI advisers begin in technology and reach for the language of culture as they go. I begin in the opposite place. If your question is about culture and leadership as much as it is about tools and workflows, this practice is built for it.
Disqualification is a discipline, not a disappointment. I decline wrong-fit engagements as a matter of course. If the fit is not clear, I will say so, and where possible suggest a better-suited practitioner. A referral to a more appropriate practice is itself a service.
Yes - but the answer deserves more than a policy statement. AI is used operationally: for research synthesis, document review, early-stage drafting, and administrative workflow. It is a working tool, used daily, with genuine fluency. It is not used in the room, or in the advisory conversation. Those remain two people, talking. The thinking, the judgement, and the written work that carries my name are mine.
Where AI is used in work that touches a specific client engagement, this is disclosed in writing and agreed mutually beforehand. No client data goes into public models. Any client-specific material handled through an AI tool is processed only via paid-tier services with appropriate retention controls. For the most sensitive work, AI tools are not used at all. Data protection is handled in accordance with UK GDPR. ICO registration is current. The engagement agreement sets out data handling terms clearly. If you have specific requirements around data governance - sector regulation, board policy, or personal preference - raise them at the outset. I will accommodate reasonable requirements, or decline the engagement honestly if I cannot.
If something here has made you think - about your organisation, your leadership, or what you are building - then that is reason enough to get in touch.
There is no sales process. No pitch. Just a conversation to work out whether working together makes sense.
Email directly, or book a call. Either is fine.
